    WB Government Increases Honorarium:  The Government of West Bengal has announced an increase in the monthly honorarium provided to Hindu priests (Purohits) and Muslim muezzins across the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the financial support will be raised by ₹500, increasing the monthly amount from ₹1500 to ₹2000 starting next month.

    The announcement was made as part of the state government’s ongoing effort to support individuals who play an important role in maintaining religious and cultural traditions in society.

    Honorarium Increased by ₹500

    Under the revised decision of the state government:

    • The monthly honorarium for priests and muezzins will now be ₹2000.
    • Earlier they were receiving ₹1500 per month.
    • The revised amount will come into effect from the next month.

    According to the Chief Minister, the increase reflects the government’s commitment to supporting people who contribute to the spiritual and cultural life of communities.

    New Applications Also Approved

    Along with the honorarium increase, the government has also approved new applications submitted by priests and muezzins who recently applied for the scheme.

    These applications were verified and have now received official approval from the state administration. This means more religious service providers will be included in the scheme and will begin receiving the monthly financial assistance.

    Government Emphasizes Social Harmony

    Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that the state government is committed to creating a society where all communities are respected equally.

    She emphasized that people who protect and maintain spiritual traditions deserve recognition and support. By extending financial assistance to both Hindu priests and Muslim muezzins, the government aims to promote social harmony and inclusiveness.
