RG Kar Case on BJP Ticket: In a significant development ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, the mother of the RG Kar Hospital victim has indicated that she may step into active politics. On March 19, she said she is willing to contest the elections as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to challenge the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The mother of the RG Kar victim claimed on Thursday that she intends to contest the election as the BJP candidate from the Panihati Assembly constituency, to “secure justice for her daughter and fight for women’s safety in Bengal.” Protesters associated with the ‘Reclaim the Night’ movement have expressed strong displeasure over this move. Panihati is one of the 38 seats for which the BJP has not yet announced its candidate.
She stated, “A considerable amount of time has passed since my daughter was brutally murdered. Despite prolonged movements and struggles, we have not yet received justice. I have decided to contest the election on a BJP ticket with the objective of securing justice for my daughter. I have personally informed BJP functionaries that I wish to contest from the Panihati seat. If they field me as their candidate, I will fight with all my might to oust the Trinamool government from power and ensure the safety of women in Bengal.”
Likely Candidature from Panihati (RG Kar Case on BJP Ticket)
According to her statement, she is likely to be fielded from the Panihati constituency in North 24 Parganas. She mentioned that her name could appear in the BJP’s upcoming third list of candidates, which is expected to be released soon.
Shift from Grief to Political Action
The grieving mother said that she now wants to take a political route to seek justice and bring change. Her decision reflects a shift from personal loss to public action, as she believes entering politics could help her raise her voice more effectively against the current system.
Earlier Offer Was Declined
She also revealed that the BJP had approached her earlier with a similar proposal. However, at that time, she declined the offer, stating she was not mentally prepared to take such a step. With time, her stance appears to have changed, and she is now open to entering the political arena.
Political Impact in West Bengal (RG Kar Case on BJP Ticket)
Her potential entry into the elections could have a notable impact, especially given the public attention surrounding the RG Kar case. If confirmed, her candidature may become a key talking point in the state’s political landscape, particularly in North 24 Parganas.
