Why e-KYC Is Important /Ration Card KYC Mandatory

The e-KYC process has been introduced to stop misuse and fraud in the ration system. In many cases, ration is issued in someone’s name, but the actual person does not receive it. To fix this issue, the government is linking beneficiary details with Aadhaar and biometric verification.

    This step ensures:

    • Only genuine beneficiaries receive the ration
    • No duplication or fake entries
    • Fair distribution of free food grains

Documents Required for Ration Card e-KYC

Before initiating the e-KYC process, ensure that you have the following documents ready:

    1. An Aadhaar card linked to your mobile number.
    2. Your Ration Card number.
    3. A registered mobile number for OTP verification.
    4. If required, biometric information (such as fingerprints) for identity verification.
    5. To avoid any issues during the verification process, it is crucial that your Aadhaar is correctly linked.

Online Method for Ration Card e-KYC

The online method is the easiest way to complete your Ration Card e-KYC. It is best suited for beneficiaries who have access to a smartphone or the internet. Various state governments provide official PDS portals for this purpose; additionally, the ‘Mera Ration’ mobile app is also available. Step-by-Step Process for Online Ration Card e-KYC

    • Visit your state’s official PDS portal or download the ‘Mera Ration’ app.
    • Log in using your Ration Card number and Aadhaar number.
    • Verify your Aadhaar details using the OTP received on your registered mobile number or via facial recognition.
    • Enter the necessary details requested on the screen.
    • Review the information and submit it to complete the e-KYC process.
    • Once the process is complete, you will receive a confirmation message or receipt for your records.

Offline Method for Ration Card e-KYC

For beneficiaries who do not have access to a smartphone or the internet, an offline option is available to complete the e-KYC process. They can complete this procedure by visiting authorized centers, such as Fair Price Shops (FPS) or Common Service Centers (CSC).

    • e-KYC via a Fair Price Shop or Ration Dealer
    • Visit your nearest Fair Price Shop.
    • Present your Aadhaar card and Ration Card to the dealer. Verify your identity using a biometric verification device, such as a fingerprint scanner.
    • Once the verification is successful, you will receive a confirmation message indicating that your e-KYC process has been completed.
    • e-KYC via CSC or Service Center
    • Locate your nearest Common Service Center (CSC) or service center.
    • Submit your Aadhaar card, Ration card, and registered mobile number to an authorized staff member.
    • Complete the verification process using either biometric authentication or OTP verification.
    • Confirm your details and receive updates regarding your e-KYC status.

Aadhaar Verification Process for Ration Card e-KYC

The Aadhaar verification process is an essential part of completing your Ration card e-KYC. There are two primary methods of verification:

    • OTP Verification: An OTP (One-Time Password) is sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
    • Entering this OTP on the appropriate platform completes the verification process.
    • Biometric Authentication: This involves scanning your fingerprint and matching it against the data stored in your Aadhaar profile. Biometric verification is typically conducted at authorized centers, such as Fair Price Shops or CSCs.
    • Aadhaar plays a crucial role in confirming the identities of beneficiaries and preventing duplication.

How to Check Ration Card e-KYC Status Online

To check the status of your Ration card e-KYC, follow these steps:

    • Visit your state’s official PDS portal or open the corresponding mobile app.
    • Enter your Ration card number and Aadhaar details.
    • Navigate to the e-KYC section.
    • Check the status of your e-KYC. If it shows as ‘Pending,’ re-verify your details and repeat the process. If issues persist, contact the support team for assistance.

What You Need to Do for Ration Card e-KYC

To complete your KYC, you must link the following:

    • Aadhaar Card
    • Mobile Number
    • Biometric Verification (Fingerprint)

Once your details are successfully linked, you will receive a confirmation SMS. After that, you can continue receiving your monthly ration without any interruption.

What You Will Get After Completing KYC

Eligible beneficiaries will continue to receive:

    • 5 kg of free rice or wheat per person every month

This benefit is provided under the government’s free ration scheme and is crucial for millions of families across the country.

    Progress So Far

    According to available updates:

    • Around 80% of ration card holders have already completed e-KYC
    • Over 8 crore fake ration cards have been identified and removed
    • The government is expected to save approximately ₹4,400 crore due to this initiative

This clearly shows that the drive is helping in making the system more transparent and efficient.

    Last Date and Final Warning

There is only a limited time left. If you have not yet completed your e-KYC, you must do it before March 31, 2026.

Failure to complete KYC may result in:

    • Suspension of ration benefits
    • Removal from the beneficiary list
