LPG Crisis: As global fuel instability continues to disrupt energy supply chains, the Indian government is stepping up with a practical solution aimed at easing the burden on households. In a major move to reduce dependence on LPG, the government is preparing to distribute 5 lakh advanced induction cooktops across the country.
Concerns regarding the LPG crisis are mounting; however, the Central Government has provided assurances that the situation remains normal and that an adequate supply of LPG is still available within the country. With the aim of providing relief to ordinary middle-class citizens, the Central Government is undertaking another initiative. The government entity, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), is set to introduce 500,000 induction cookstoves. These induction cookstoves will be rolled out into the market in a phased manner.
According to Central Government sources, EESL will soon issue a new tender for the procurement of induction cookstoves. Orders for 100,000 units have already been placed. Furthermore, induction-compatible cookware is also now being procured. It has been reported that these 100,000 induction cookstoves will be distributed across various states and government-affiliated organizations.
An EESL official stated that a new tender would be issued once the existing stock of induction cookstoves held by vendors is exhausted. This tender will be issued for the procurement of 500,000 induction cookstoves.

Reports indicate that disruptions in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz have created uncertainty in global fuel transportation. This route is crucial for LPG shipments, and any blockade directly impacts supply chains worldwide.
Although the government has reassured citizens about adequate domestic LPG stock, it is proactively promoting electric alternatives under the “Go Electric” initiative to avoid future disruptions.
5 Lakh Induction Cooktops: What We Know So Far

- EESL will soon issue a new tender for procurement of 5 lakh induction cooktops
- An initial order of 1 lakh units has already been placed
- Distribution will be done in phases through state-run agencies
- Cooktops will also be available for public purchase via EESL’s online platform
Additionally, the government is working on supplying compatible induction cookware, ensuring users can transition smoothly from LPG to electric cooking.
