    CBSE Introduces Special Assessment Scheme 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notification introducing a special assessment scheme for Class 12 students studying in select West Asian countries. This decision comes in response to extraordinary geopolitical conditions that made it impossible to conduct examinations as scheduled.

    According to the official notice, the new policy aims to ensure that students are not academically disadvantaged while maintaining fairness and reliability in evaluation.

    Background: Why Exams Were Cancelled

    CBSE clarified that due to the prevailing situation in countries such as Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, conducting exams became infeasible.

    • All Class 12 exams scheduled between March 16 and April 10, 2026, were cancelled
    • Previously postponed exams were also cancelled
    • Exams conducted up to February 28, 2026, were completed

    The Board stated that student safety and academic continuity were the top priorities behind this decision.

    Assessment scheme for declaration of results of Class XII in West Asian Countries

    CBSE emphasized that the challenge was to prepare results that are:

    • Fair and unbiased
    • Based on credible academic data
    • Transparent and reliable

    The Board noted that while alternative assessment cannot fully replace written exams, it must still ensure accurate evaluation of student performance.

    Assessment Method for CBSE Introduces Special Assessment

    Based on available data, CBSE divided students into different categories:

    1. Students who appeared in all subjects
    2. Students who appeared in 4 subjects
    3. Students who appeared in 3 subjects
    4. Students who appeared in 2 subjects
    5. Students who appeared in 1 subject
    6. Students with all exams pending
    7. Students with the most exams pending
    8. Previous-year compartment candidates

    This classification helps in applying a structured evaluation approach.

    Assessment Structure Explained

    Class 12 evaluation consists of two components:

    • Theory Exams (conducted by CBSE)
    • Practical/Internal Assessment (IA) (conducted by schools)

    As seen in the table on page 3, the marks distribution varies:

    • 80:20 (Theory: Practical)
    • 70:30
    • 60:40
    • 50:50
    • 30:70

    Each subject carries a total of 100 marks.

    Subjects Affected by Non-Conducted Exams

    The notification lists multiple subjects where exams were not conducted, including:

    • History, Political Science, Economics
    • Mathematics, Biology, Business Studies
    • Computer Science, Informatics Practices
    • English, Hindi, Urdu
    • Skill subjects like Marketing, Banking, AI, Data Science, etc.

    The detailed subject-wise marks distribution is provided in the table on page 4 of the notice.

    Key Highlights of the Alternative Assessment Policy

    1. Students Who Appeared in All Exams

    • Results will be based on actual performance in exams

    2. Students with Partial Exams

    • Marks will be calculated using:
      • School assessments
      • Pre-board exams
      • Internal assessments

    3. For Theory Papers

    • Best of:
      • Quarterly exam
      • Half-yearly exam
      • Final pre-board exam

    4. For Lower Theory Marks Subjects (60/50/30)

    • Final pre-board exam marks will be considered

    5. Internal/Practical Marks

    • Already completed and uploaded
    • No changes will be made

    Important Dates for Schools

    CBSE has instructed schools to upload marks within the following timeline:

    • Start Date: April 6, 2026
    • End Date: April 13, 2026

    Schools must ensure accuracy, as no corrections will be allowed after submission.

    Strict Guidelines for Schools

    CBSE has issued strict instructions:

    • Maintain fairness and transparency
    • Upload marks without bias
    • Preserve all records securely
    • Be ready for CBSE verification

    Any non-compliance may lead to action by the Board.

    Special Provisions for Students

    • Students who missed exams will be marked “Absent” where applicable
    • Those not meeting criteria may be placed in:
      • Compartment category
      • Essential Repeat category
    • Compartment exams may be conducted later (likely July 2026)

    Option for Dissatisfied Students

    CBSE has provided relief for students unhappy with their results:

    • Opportunity to appear in fresh examinations
    • Subject to feasibility and conditions
    • Marks from such exams will be treated as final

    Final Decision Authority

    The Board has clearly stated:

    • CBSE’s decision will be final and binding
    • Results will be declared along with those of other students
