PRISM-SG Portal Launched: In a major push towards faster infrastructure development, the Government of India has launched the PRISM-SG Portal (Portal for Rail-Road Inspection & Stages Management – Steel Girders). The portal was jointly inaugurated by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Ashwini Vaishnaw.
This new digital platform is designed to simplify and accelerate the approval and inspection processes for Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and railway bridge projects across India.
What is PRISM-SG Portal?
The PRISM-SG Portal is an integrated online system developed to digitise critical stages of ROB construction, especially those involving steel girder fabrication and inspection.
Earlier, many approvals, such as:
- Quality Assurance Plan (QAP)
- Welding Procedure Specification Sheet (WPSS)
- Fabrication stage inspections
were handled manually or through offline processes, leading to delays and a lack of transparency.

Now, with PRISM-SG, everything is managed end-to-end online, including:
- Document submission
- Technical scrutiny
- Query resolution
- Approval workflows
- Inspection scheduling
- Uploading reports, photos, and test results
Why This Portal Was Needed
Before this launch, ROB construction required multiple approvals from Indian Railways.
While some approvals like:
- General Arrangement Drawing (GAD)
- Structural drawings
were processed via the RRCAS portal; other critical steps remained offline.
This resulted in:
- Long delays (up to 12 months)
- Poor coordination between agencies
- Limited real-time tracking
The PRISM-SG portal removes these bottlenecks by bringing all stakeholders onto one unified platform.
