West Bengal Launches Common Admission Portal: The Government of West Bengal has officially introduced a Common Admission Portal for admission into Polytechnic and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for the academic session 2026–2027. The initiative has been announced by the Technical Education, Training & Skill Development (TET&SD) Department to streamline the admission process across the state.
According to the official notification issued on 12 March 2026, all candidates seeking admission to government ITIs and Polytechnic institutes in West Bengal must complete their registration through the centralized online portal.

The portal will handle registration, application, merit list preparation, counselling, and seat allocation for both Polytechnic and ITI courses.

Online Registration Mandatory
As per the notification, all candidate registrations and enrollments will be conducted only through the Common Admission Portal. No offline applications will be accepted.
Admissions will be purely merit-based, calculated on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

Polytechnic Admission 2026: Eligibility & Criteria
Age Limit
- No upper age limit for admission.
- For 1st year Polytechnic admission, the candidate’s date of birth must not be after 1 July 2011.
- No age limit for 2nd year lateral entry.
Educational Qualification
First Year Polytechnic
Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Madhyamik / Class 10 with:
- Science / Physical Science
- Mathematics
Second Year (Lateral Entry)
Candidates must have:
Passed Higher Secondary (10+2) with one of the following subjects:
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- Electronics
- Information Technology
- Biology
- Informatics Practices
- Biotechnology
- Agriculture
- Engineering Graphics
- Business Studies
- Entrepreneurship
OR
- Passed Higher Secondary (Vocational) from WBSCT&VE&SD.
OR
- Passed 10th + 2 years ITI course in a relevant trade.

ITI Admission 2026: Eligibility Criteria
Age Requirement
- Minimum age: 14 years as on 01 August 2026
- No upper age limit.
Educational Qualification
E Group Trades
- Passed or appearing Class 8 from a school located in West Bengal.
M Group Trades
Passed or appearing Class 10 (Madhyamik) from a recognized board.
ITI Application Fee
- ₹200 for boys
- ₹100 for girls
Merit List Preparation
The merit list will be prepared using a weighted scoring system.
For Class 10 Based Admissions
- 50% weightage on total marks
- 50% weightage on marks obtained in Mathematics and Physical Science
For Class 12 Based Admissions
- 50% weightage on total marks
- 50% weightage on marks in Mathematics + Physics / Biology + Chemistry
In case of a tie in merit scores, the following rules will apply:
- Higher marks in core subjects will get priority.
- If still tied, the candidate with the earlier date of birth will receive higher rank.
District Quota in Admissions
The notification also introduces a 50% district quota in admissions.
This quota will apply to districts such as:
- Kolkata
- South 24 Parganas
- North 24 Parganas
- Howrah
- Kalyani subdivision (Nadia)
- Chandannagar and Srirampur (Hooghly)
If seats remain vacant after counselling, they will be converted to general seats.
Reservation Policy
Several reservation provisions have been announced:
- 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)
- 20% reservation for female candidates
- 20% reservation under IMC (Institutional Management Committee) quota in ITIs
- 20% reservation for home inmates and vocational training centre students
Additionally, SC/ST seats may be converted to general seats after the third counselling if vacancies remain.
Special Provisions for GTA Hill Areas
Candidates from GTA hill subdivisions will receive priority in admission to institutes located in the hill region. If seats remain vacant after the second counselling, they will be opened to general candidates.
