This opportunity is open for engineering undergraduate, postgraduate engineering, and postgraduate science students who are currently pursuing their studies and want hands-on exposure in advanced defence research.
The internship program will be conducted at HEMRL, Sutarwadi, Pune (Maharashtra) and offers a valuable chance to work in core research areas related to high-energy materials and defence technologies.
About HEMRL and the Internship Program
HEMRL is actively involved in research and development of propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, polymeric materials, insulators, and combustion systems for defence applications. Through this internship program, students will gain practical exposure to real-world defence research while working under experienced scientists and engineers.
The internship is purely training-oriented and does not guarantee employment after completion.
Internship Duration and Stipend (DRDO HEMRL Internship)
- Duration: 6 months
- Monthly Stipend: ₹5,000
- Location: HEMRL, Pune
- Certificate: Issued after successful completion of 6 months
Stipend payment is subject to satisfactory performance and a minimum of 15 working days of physical attendance per month. Payments will be made in two instalments, with the first after three months.

- Aerospace Engineering – 2
- Chemical Engineering – 10
- Mechanical Engineering – 10
- Chemistry – 10
- Physics – 2
- Electrical Engineering – 2
- Electronics & Communication Engineering – 2
- Computer Engineering – 2
The number of vacancies may change at the discretion of the organisation.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
- Engineering students in 7th or 8th semester (UG)
- MTech students in 1st or 2nd year
- MSc science students in 1st or 2nd year
- Full-time course from a recognised Indian university or institute
Academic requirement:
- Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (out of 10)
Age limit:
- Below 28 years
Only meritorious students recommended by their Principal or Director are eligible to apply.
Selection Process
- Selection is purely merit-based
- Shortlisted candidates will be informed directly
- No communication will be sent to rejected applicants
- The final selection is at the discretion of HEMRL/DRDO
Students must submit a brief bio-data (within 300 words) highlighting achievements, awards, or professional memberships if any.
