WB Assembly Elections Schedule 2026: The Election Commission of India has formally issued the notification for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, covering all 294 constituencies in the state. Polling will take place in two phases, with voting set to begin at 7:00 AM on both days.

As per the official announcement made on March 15:
- Phase 1: April 23, 2026 — 152 constituencies
- Phase 2: April 29, 2026 — 142 constituencies
- Counting of Votes: May 4, 2026
West Bengal is the only state among those going to polls this cycle where voting will be conducted in multiple phases. All other states and the Union Territory involved will complete polling in a single phase.
Candidate Announcements Gain Momentum
Political parties have already intensified preparations with large-scale candidate declarations:
- The All India Trinamool Congress has announced candidates for 291 seats, leaving three constituencies in the Darjeeling Hills region for its ally, the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha led by Anit Thapa.
- The Bharatiya Janata Party has released multiple lists covering most constituencies, with a few seats yet to be finalized.
- The Left Front, including Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, and Revolutionary Socialist Party, has also declared candidates in phases across the state.
- The Indian National Congress has announced candidates for 284 constituencies, fielding several prominent leaders.
WB Assembly Elections Schedule: Key Candidates in Focus
Several high-profile names are expected to shape the contest:
- Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will contest from Baharampur
- Mausam Benazir Noor is contesting from Malatipur in Malda
- Ali Imran Ramz returns as a candidate from Chakulia
From the Left camp, Dipsita Dhar and Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya are among the notable candidates, while senior leaders like Mohammed Salim and Sujan Chakraborty are not contesting directly this time.
Security Measures Intensified
To ensure peaceful and fair elections, authorities have stepped up preparations:
- Major administrative reshuffles within the state police and bureaucracy
- Deployment of central security forces across sensitive zones
- Regular patrolling in multiple districts
The focus is on maintaining law and order and preventing any form of electoral violence.
